Union Jack of All Trades: British Actors Portraying All New Hero Reboots
I'm still rather annoyed that three of the biggest American super-hero's are being played by Brits. Don't get me wrong, I love the English. You won't find a bigger Harry Potter geek or a better British accent. However, I feel as if Superman, Batman, and Spiderman are so iconic here in the states, that I cant help but feel like they could have made at least one of them a yankee. Obviously, Bale is an amazing actor and his batman is probably my favorite depiction, so take him of the table. As for the web slinger, Andrew Garfield was awesome in The Social Network. I also recently saw The Imaganiarum of Doctor Parnassuss (or however the hell you spell it, I'm too lazy to google, thats probably unhealthy) and while the movie was good, albeit confusing as hell, Mr. Garfield was really rather entertaining, and seemed very dedicated to his craft.
So that leaves Superman himself. The quintessential super hero, the most famous of them all. I had never heard of Henry Cavill when I first heard of the casting, but I did my research and realized he was in The Tudors. I wish there was more material for me to base my opinion on, but he hasn't been in too many main stream flicks. Here's something interesting though; in the biz, he is known as "The Most Unlucky Man In Hollywood". This is because he screen tested for the 2004 for superman, lost that to Brandon Routh, then was rumored to be the new batman, but lost it to Bale, and almost had the lead role in the reboot of the 007 James Bond series, but lost out to Daniel Craig.
Looks like his luck has changed. Lets just hope that he does well and lets his unlucky title diminish in the sound of thunderous applause.
PS: James Mcavoy is the new Professor X in the upcoming Xmen prequel. The British are coming the British are coming!
