Entertainment Weekly is reporting that David Slade will be directing an entirely new potential film series based on the Marvel superhero DareDevil (a.k.a Matt Murdock).
SIDENOTE:
David Slade directed this movie I saw once called Hard Candy, which starred Ellen Page of Juno fame and Patrick Wilson from Angels in America and Watchmen.
Not only was this movie some of the most fucked up shit I had ever seen in my life, but it felt so realistic that if they both weren't such good actors, I would probably not be able to believe them in any other roles. Page played an underage girl who tricks a pedophile into meeting up with her, and then she tortures him until he eventually admits to all of his previous wrong doings with teenaged girls and kills himself. Oh, and while she has him unconscious, she ices his genitalia if you will, and when he awakes, she tricks him into believing she had castrated him.
Moving on...
No, Ben Affleck will not be playing DD, which I think is fair to say that due to lackluster box office numbers and less the stellar performances, was a good call. Besides, Ben's getting up there, he's going to have to start taking dad roles soon.
I'm sure in the next few months, every name under the sun will be rumored to have been screen tested.
Two people I think could be good are both recent rejections from current superhero reboots. First I think that John Krasinski from The Office could be a good candidate.
John was recently auditioned for the title role in Captain America, but was ultimately passed on for Chris Evans. I was initially disappointed, considering Chris already had his go getting to play an iconic character like Johnny Storm in The Fantastic Four, but the trailer seems kind of good so maybe it was meant to be that John wouldn't get CA so he could get to play DareDevil.
My other choice would be Matt Goode. He was one of the few good parts in Watchmen, and has been brilliant in many other movies. He is english which some might think could deter his chances, but then again, that hasn't hurt any other foreign actors in their pursuits of iconic american superhero roles (i.e Batman, Superman, Spiderman). He was rumored to be considered for the role of Clark Kent in the new Superman films, but that went to a different englishman, Henry Cavil.
I'm not too excited about this movie. Daredevil has never been a favorite of mine. I took this Superhero English class last year, and one of the main texts was a DareDevil graphic novel. My teacher was a real dick head though, and made reading it boring as hell. Left a bad taste in my mouth so to speak. Plus, the director's last movie was The Twilight's Saga Eclipse, so, there's that.
Who do you think would be a good choice? Look for more posts in upcoming months for DD casting announcements.
