Is anyone else out there as excited as I truly am to see Anne Hathaway don the notorious leather cat suit and scratch some shit up as Catwoman in the Brilliant and Talented Chris Nolan's third (and sadly last) installment in his extremely successful (both critically and commercially) Batman Franchise. I think she was a great pick. CatWoman incarnations in the past have had a bumpy ride. In the 60's, Julie Newmar originated the role on the Batman television series, you know the one, it's where all the GEE WILIKERS BATMAN and HOLY CAT WOMEN quotes developed from. Eartha Kitt then took over the role once Newmar left, and she became one of the most famous women to wear the leather jumpsuit in all of Batman history. More recently though, there was Michelle Pfeiffer in the dark and twisted Tim Burton's epic batman film from the late 80's. For my generation, her depiction of the character has remained the most iconic. She played the role differently then it had been done in the past. Having Catwomans alter ego, Selena Kyle, being much more of a lowly, homely, and disheveled mess of a woman, and then when she slips into some circulation cutting leather, she becomes the sulty, violent, and psychotic assailant the world has grown to love. I personally think Anne will be great in the role because both her and Michelle have similar qualities. They both are undoubtedly beautiful, but they also have an America's Sweetheart vibe about them. I think that's why Halle Berry's version didn't work. Besides the shit script, she just wasn't believable in the frumpy Selena Kyle role, as Halle herself is to well known as a bonified sex symbol.
Let's hope Anne does the cat suit proud, but let's face it, with Chris Nolan's vision and beyond brilliant direction, there is just no way I will be disappointed.
PS: How does everyone feel about the other Dark Knight Rises casting news? Tom Hardy, of Inception and Bronson fame being cast as Bane, and Oscar Winner Marion Cotillard playing Talia Al-Ghul, Liam Neeson's Characters (from the first film) Daughter.
